The Standard CLUT

The CLUTs can be input in two forms:

  • Square: azi / inc matrix (180 · 180) - file name extension .CLUT
  • Round: stereographic projection (diameter = 180 px) - file name extension .POL

The CLUTs must be 180 · 180 RGB files, RAW, non-interleaved

The CLUT shown on the left shows a different color for every possible orientation (1 ° resolution) of the orientation half space.

The Spectrum CLUT

The CLUT shown on the left wraps around the periphery of the pole figure; it does not distinguish axes that dip above or below the plane of the image.

The Positive CLUT

This CLUT can be used to recreate the impression of a thin section (20 µm thick) of optically positive material (e.g., quartz) viewed under crossed polarizers and with wave plate inserted.

Circular polarization

This CLUT can be used to recreate the impression of a thin section (thinned to first order white) viewed under circular polarization (= crossed polarizers and 2 quarterwave plates inserted).
